TEDxRAINIER
2015

Summary

“Guided by this year’s theme, ‘Space Between,’ we’ll spend the day exploring what lies between what is and what might be. Our speakers will explore inspiration and implementation, cause and effect, the intergalactic and the intercellular, the past, the present and futures unknown.”

The proposed logo for TEDxRainier 2015 features subtly customized typography that draws attention to the literal space between the two words that make it up, relying on and highlighting the partial symmetry of the letters E and B. The broader identity system uses this gap in the logotype to drive layout design, with two asymmetrical columns aligned to each half of the mark, further emphasizing the core feature of the logo.

Photo selections support the event’s theme by calling attention to the odd similarities between things of vastly different scales, such as comparing the planet Jupiter to the carapace of a purple warrior scarab, or the dunes on Mars to a blue morpho butterfly’s wing. Additional brand elements combine the ticks of a ruler with a representation of sound waves, visually uniting the theme of the event with its delivery method: speech.
